Bridge idea to link city with parks
THIS is the solution an architect has come up with to create a link path from Preston's city centre to its historic parks.

Keith Scott, 80, who yesterday said a design picked to revamp Winckley Square had "missed the point", believes an ornate bridge between the north end of the park closest to the city centre to the southern side by Avenham and Miller Parks would work better.

But the firm whose design was picked to win a competition to revamp the square claims it has now modified its plans to create a "stronger link" path.

Mr Scott, of the judging panel, said: "I am thinking of an elegant bridge connecting the city centre with the parks and create the link which I feel the competition asked for."

Catherine Mitchell, of competition winners the Cooper Partnership, said: "We decided not to attempt that because of its impact on the trees."
