The Party in the Square was hosted by the "Friends Of Winckley Square" on 4th July 1999.
The party included catering from local restaurateur Paul Heathcotes team, displays from local artists, Punch and Judy shows, accordion players, the Silver Bell Jazz Band and the Darrel Edwards Road Show. Another attraction on the day was the guided tour around the Square by local historian Marian Roberts who gave a very interesting account of the Square and the people who once lived there.
The day was organised as a fund-raising event by the Friends Group, whose aim it is to raise money for improvements to the Square such as new benches and lighting. They also wish to raise awareness of the historical value of the Georgian Square. This year's party was the first in what is hoped would become an annual event in the Square.
