Preston is the administrative capital of the County Palatine of Lancashire. The town lies at the hub of the M6, M61, M65 and M55 motorway network, with 50% of the population of the UK within a two hour drive.

Winckley Square is a 6 minute walk from Preston Railway station. Leave the Railway station by the main exit. Turn right onto Fishergate. Proceed along the right hand side of Fishergate, across Mount Street and Chapel Street, as far as Barclays Bank. Turn right into Winckley Street and walk ahead to the Northern side of Winckley Square and the start of A Walk Around Winckley Square.

An alternative route is to leave by the side exit to Butler Street, marked "Car Park". Walk across the large car park to the rear of the Fishergate Shopping Centre to the corner of East Cliff Road and Garden Street. Proceed along Garden Street to the junction of Garden Street and Chapel Street, which marks the Western side of Winckley Square.

Winckley Square is a 10 minute walk from Preston Bus Station. Leave the Bus station by the Guildhall exit. Turn left into Lancaster Road and precede 100 metres to the intersection of Lancaster Road, Church Street and Fishergate. Turn right into Fishergate and walk along the left hand side of the road as far as Barclays bank. Turn left into Winckley Street and walk ahead to the Northern side of Winckley Square and the start of A Walk Around Winckley Square.

There are a limited number of short-stay (one hour) parking spaces in Winckley Square. The main Town Centre car parks are by the Railway Station, over the Bus Station and in Avenham Lane. When driving in Winckley Square note that, Chapel Street, on the Western side of Winckley Square, is two-way traffic. The Northern, Eastern and Southern sides are one-way (clockwise) traffic.

• M6 Southbound, M61, A59 Blackburn:
  From Junction 31 of the M6, follow the signs for Preston. Turn left at the T-junction of New Hall Lane and Stanley Street (facing Homebase). Immediately take the right hand lane (of three) and turn right at the traffic lights into Queens Street. Follow the road along Queens Street, Avenham Lane and Ribblesdale Place. At the end of Ribblesdale Place turn right into Chapel Street (only option) and proceed along the Western side of Winckley Square.
• M6 Northbound, A6 Chorley, Bamber Bridge:
  From Junction 29 of the M6 take the A6 and follow the Preston South signs. After crossing the river Ribble, proceed (uphill) on London Road. Approximately 500 metres from the top of the hill turn left at the traffic lights into Queens Street. Follow the road along Queen Street, Avenham Lane and Ribblesdale Place. At the end of Ribblesdale Place turn right into Chapel Street (only option) and proceed along the Western side of Winckley Square.
• A59 Liverpool:
  From the A59 follow the Preston Town Centre signs along the dual carriageway. On passing an Aldi supermarket, on the left, move into the right hand lane before the next set of traffic lights (Office World) at the junction of Ringway, Corporation Street and Fleet Street. Bear right at the lights into Fleet Street, follow the one-way system and turn right into Lune Street. Keep to the left hand side and continue to the traffic lights at the T-junction of Lune Street and Fishergate. Turn right at the traffic lights (no other option permitted) and then immediately left into Chapel Street, which marks the Western side of Winckley Square.
• M55 Blackpool, A6 Lancaster:
  Follow the A6 Preston Town Centre signs to the intersection of North Road, Meadow Street and Ringway (Post House traffic lights). Proceed straight ahead into Stanley Street at the next traffic lights (intersection of Ringway, Church Street, Ribbleton Lane and Stanley Street). Take the right hand lane at the next traffic lights, at Newhall Lane (Homebase on the right). Turn right at the next traffic lights (25 metres) into Queens Street. Follow the road along Queen Street, Avenham Lane and Ribblesdale Place. At the end of Ribblesdale Place turn right into Chapel Street (only option) and proceed along the Western side of Winckley Square.
