tree in town!

An Ancient "tree dressing" ceremony is to take place in Preston this Halloween.

Tree dressing is said to be an ancient tradition to celebrate the harvest. It takes place at Winckley Square between 12.30pm and 3.30pm on October 31 and has been organised by an organisation called Secret Arts in conjunction with The Friends of Winckley Square group, set up to raise money to spruce up the square and return it to its former glory.

This year's theme is The Green Man, which is based around the leaf haired Celtic God of death and resurrection associated with the renewal and fertility of vegetation.

The event is free and features willow sculpting and displays associated with trees and tree products, music, poetry readings, seasonal food such as Ghost Burgers and Witches Brew, along with educational displays, Halloween face painting and palm readings.
