The Black Horse

The Black Horse pub The Black Horse pub and former hotel, Friargate, Preston, was built in 1898 to the designs by the local architect, J A Steward. Compared to many built circa 1900, the exterior is quite modest, but it conceals a very special set of rooms.

The curving bar counter The most stunning part of the interior is the curving bar counter, one of a small number faced with 3D ceramics. It is believed that there are only 14 such curved bars in the country.

The public bar The magnificent counter graces a public bar that also has a ceramic fire surround, a tiled dildo and a beautiful mosaic floor. The pub has a statutory Grade II listing.
